One of the wonderful things about working with people is recognizing and embracing differences; it follows that the therapeutic approach should be flexible and customized to each person.
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C) trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have extensive experience assisting clients with anxiety, end-of-life and other life transitions, grief, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicidal ideation, and other challenges. My approach is tailored to the individual. Working together, we can leverage your resilience and unique inherent strengths to succeed.
In addition to EMDR, I utilize a strengths-based approach, as well as other modalities, in supporting clients to attain their mental-wellness goals. My practice is informed by 20 years as an emergency first responder and member of the Fire-Rescue Crisis Intervention (CISM) and Peer Support teams. I am currently serving my first term as a Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner in Montgomery County, MD, and also sit on several fire-rescue related boards and working groups, with an abiding commitment to increase mental health awareness.
About Jane Callen
MA, MSW, LCSW-C
My role is to help facilitate your healing journey by focusing on your particular situation and needs. The first step will be to meet and see if we are a good fit.
The modality I use will depend on your needs and goals. Everyone has inherent strength and my job is to work with you so that you are able to see it in yourself and begin to live your life from that place of strength and health. One of the wonderful things about working with people is recognizing and embracing differences; consequently, the therapeutic approach must also be flexible and customized to the client.
It is possible - with the right tools and a healing connection to others -
to find peace even when we confront stress, pain, and challenges in our lives.
This belief is at the core of my practice.
Another focus for my work and a subject about which I care deeply is end-of life: I am trained to provide K-9 therapy and also use an adaptation of the Indian tambura, known as a “body tambura,” to help mitigate pain, stress, and tension, primarily at the end of life. And I am certified in end-of-life Comfort Touch Massage and Reiki Level II. I am a Master Trainer for the Maryland Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment, which replaced the DNR. I have traveled across the state to educate Marylanders about the importance of utilizing MOLST to codify their end-of-life wishes in support of death with dignity. I also attended and am certified by Georgetown University Medical School’s Mind-Body program, which embraces multiple mindfulness and meditative resources.
I obtained my Master’s in Social Work from Western New Mexico University, a Master's in Government from Johns Hopkins, and a Bachelor’s Degree from The American University. I am a native Marylander, with great fondness for and deep roots in this area. I enjoy spending time in the garden or walking with the dogs by the river.
